Pet chimp rips off woman's face and eats her eyes in horror attack

19 May 2025

The horrific content of Sandra Herold's emergency call is almost beyond belief – her anguished shouts reporting the savage mauling of her friend by her pet chimpanzee, Travis, set against a backdrop of the creature's feral shrieks.

In a distressing 12-minute phone conversation with emergency services, Sandra pleaded for help, telling police to shoot the chimpanzee that she had raised as if he were her own child for the past 14 years.

"Tell me, what is the monkey doing?", asked the operator as Sandra was overwhelmed by the chaotic uproar of Travis's frenzied noises.

"He ripped her apart! Hurry up! Hurry up! Please!" she says in panic. "He-he ripped her face off! He's eating her face!".

She urgently called out for someone to shoot him, imploring, "Gun! They got to shoot him! Please! Please! Hurry! Hurry! Please! I can't. I can't ... He's eating her! He's eating her! Please! God! Please! Where are they? Where are they?", as reported by the Daily Star, reports the Irish Star.

Police eventually reached the scene at the Connecticut residence and stopped the bloodshed by shooting Travis dead. Charla Nash, the subject of this brutal assault, miraculously survived, though it is said that her previous way of life perished that day.
