  1. Look Out and Look Up:

    • Always be aware of your surroundings when working near overhead electricity wires. Look up to spot any potential hazards such as low-hanging or damaged wires.

  2. Keep a Safe Distance:

    • Never undertake any construction or work activities within 10 metres of an overhead electricity wire. This ensures you maintain a safe distance from the wires to avoid accidents.

  3. Avoid Stacking Materials Beneath Wires:

    • Never dump soil, rubble, or stack any materials underneath an overhead electricity wire. Doing so reduces the safe clearance between the wire and the ground, increasing the risk of electrical shock or fire.

  4. Stay Away from Fallen or Low-Hanging Wires:

    • If you encounter any fallen or low-hanging electricity wires, stay away. Do not approach or touch them as they could still be live and pose serious danger.

  5. Contact ESB Networks in Case of Emergency:

    • If you notice a fallen wire or any electrical hazard, immediately call the ESB Networks 24-hour emergency number at 1800 372 999. They will dispatch a team to handle the situation.

  6. General Electrical Safety:

    • Always keep electrical appliances in good condition and check for wear and tear regularly.
